Online Learning Tools for Remote Instruction

  • Grades PK-5

Students in grades PK-5 will use Seesaw as the learning management system (LMS); this is where teachers will post announcements, share teaching videos, make assignments and provide feedback.

Each student will receive a unique Home Learning Code to access Seesaw. When signing in with their Home Learning Code, students can post to their journal, respond to activities, and view class announcements. Students do not see the work of any other student in the class.

Through Seesaw, students are also able to share their learning with family members. Teachers will send designated family members an invite to connect to their child’s journal. The student journal helps keep families in the loop and engaged in their child’s learning through personalized, easy to use, safe, and visual updates. Teachers will also use Seesaw to send family members messages and reminders. Seesaw is private. You’ll only see posts created by your child or their teacher. The following link provides a video explanation of Seesaw. If you are needing access, please contact you're child's teacher.

To get started using Seesaw from your smartphone:

    • Download the free Seesaw Family app for iOS or Android.
    • Choose “Create Family Account.”
    • Your child’s teacher will send a QR code or an email invite. When you receive this, scan the QR code using Seesaw’s built-in QR code scanner.
    • Create your account.

To get started using Seesaw from your computer:

    • In a web browser, go to the link sent to you by your child’s teacher.
    • Choose your child from the list.
    • Create your account.
    • Once the teacher approves you, you’ll receive access to Seesaw.

    Grades 6-12

Students in grades 6-12 will use Canvas as the LMS. Canvas will enable teacher-student communication and provide a place for sharing content and lessons, assignments, and tracking student progress. Parents and guardians can view their student’s courses by creating a Canvas Observer account linked to their student’s account. This will allow family members to see the course modules page, preview course documents, view the course calendar, view course announcements, access their student’s conversations through course messaging (if copied by the teacher or student), and communicate with teachers. The steps for connecting to Canvas as an Observer can be found by clicking on this link.

    Steps for Canvas Parent Connect

In addition to Seesaw and Canvas, teachers will use Zoom as the video conferencing tool to provide synchronous instruction and support. WISD students also have access to various instructional tools and apps through the district portal called Clever. Before instruction begins, review the platforms and the below links for helpful tips including a student guide with tutorials, the WISD Student Agreements, and the Family Roles and Responsibilities for remote instruction.  Select the link(s) below to learn more about each of these technology tools.
